- September 8 – Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Marcus D. Williams sentences Rody J. Phillips to five years in juvenile prison for fatally stabbing 60-year-old clerk Sun Ku Kwon in the 7-Eleven at 5638 Mount Vernon Highway in Mount Vernon on December 6, 2004.[1]
- September 11 – Jayant Kadian pleads guilty to second-degree murder for stabbing his mother Kiran 23 times in the kitchen of the family home at 10005 Thompson Ridge Court in Great Falls on March 24, 2005.[2][3]
- September 12 – 21-month-old Myles A. Simon is beaten to death in the rented Alexandria townhome of his daycare provider, Jillian Ahmad, by her husband Mohammad while Jillian is on a shopping excursion for narcotics.[4][5]
- September 22 – Leslie E. Carver is sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 1994 murder of Marvin B. Greenwell by Circuit Court Judge Randy I. Bellows.[6]
- September 27 – 64-year-old Vienna man Dail W. Brown, Sr. is shot to death in the basement of his home by his son, Dail Jr., who then dismembers his father's corpse and places it in the trunk of the senior Brown's car.[7][8]
