Stanley H. Dodson

Major Stanley H. Dodson (October, 1924 - March 8, 2003) was an officer of the Fairfax County Police Department.

Personal

Dodson grew up in Burke and attended Fairfax High School. While he received a diploma from the school, he missed his graduation to serve in the Army during World War II.[1]

He married his wife June in 1952 and they would eventually have three children, daughters Karen and Bonnie and son Scott.[1]

Career

Dodson joined the Fairfax County Police department in 1947.[2]

On March 1, 1958, Lieutenant Dodson took over the FCPD's Groveton substation, replacing Captain James M. Mahoney,[3] and on May 31, 1959, Dodson himself was promoted to the rank of Captain.[4]

In 1967, Captain Dodson was promoted to Inspector and placed in charge of the newly-created operating division, which was formed from the merger of the traffic and patrol divisions.[2]. He was promoted to the rank of Major on June 20, 1969[5], and retired from the force at that rank in 1975.[1]

Major Dodson moved from Fairfax County to Moneta, Virginia in 1996 and died there of a heart attack.[1]
