Brookfield Park is a 26.8-acre local park in Springfield.

The land for the park was donated by developers Carr and Crestwood to the county in 1954.[1]

Originally named Crestwood Park, the park was renamed after Fairfax County Park Authority Board Chairman John W. Brookfield in November 1955.[2] Following Brookfield's death in October 1958, the park was dedicated in his name on November 1, 1959.[3][4]

Incidents

On January 26, 1957, 7-year-old Michael C. Hudson drowned in the park's pond when he fell through the ice while attempting to rescue his dog.[5]

9-year-old Charles Vox drowned in the park's pond on July 17, 1967 when he fell off a homemade raft.[6]
