- September 2 – Vienna Town Manager Brackenridge H. Bentley fires long-time police chief Vernon L. Jones.[1]
- September 16 – Governor Charles S. Robb appoints Alexandria attorney Jack B. Stevens to replace the retiring Judge Burch Millsap on the bench of the Fairfax Circuit Court.[2]
