- August 1 – 66-year-old security guard Okey C. Blagg is beaten and shot to death at the Northern Virginia Steel Company at 7398 Reservoir Road in Springfield when he surprises brothers Wilbur and Charles Johnson burgling a trailer on the site.[1][2][3]
