Howard A. Strang

Howard Allen Strang (December 27, 1934 – October 31, 1952) was a 17-year-old Fairfax High School student from Annandale who was fatally shot by 26-year-old security guard John N. Iorizzo at Lake Barcroft in Falls Church on October 31, 1952.[1]

Strang was acting as a lookout while his friends vandalized a lifeguard station on one of the beaches when the group was discovered by Iorizzo, who fired a single shot from his .45 caliber revolver into the air.[1]

In what was either an amazing feat of marksmanship for Iorizzo or a stunningly bad turn of luck for Strang, the shot traveled 500 feet, striking the fleeing teenager in the back. Strang died en route to the Alexandria Hospital.[1]
