Dwayne A. Wright

Dwayne Allen Wright was a murderer from Washington, D.C.

On October 13, 1989, Wright concluded a nearly week-long crime spree during which he had killed two other people, 31-year-old Odell Thomas on October 9 in Washington, D.C. and 24-year-old Reginald L. Turman on October 12 in Clinton, Maryland, with the attempted rape of 34-year-old Saba Tekle and her murder.[1][2]

Tekle, an Ethiopian immigrant and mother of three, was confronted by Wright outside her apartment in the Orleans Village Apartments in Alexandria. Wright forced Tekle to partially undress, then shot her in the back with a .38 caliber pistol when she fled screaming. She collapsed in the doorway of her apartment and died at the scene.[3]

Abandoning the stolen 1978 Buick he was using, Wright stole the burgundy Nissan Maxima Tekle had been driving and fled back to the District, where he was arrested on October 14.[4][5]

Allen pleaded guilty to robbing and murdering Turman and was given two life sentences in 1990.

On November 14, 1991, Allen was convicted in Fairfax County of two counts of capital murder of one count each of armed robbery, attempted rape and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.[6] Judge J. Howe Brown sentenced Allen to death on January 24, 1992.[7]

Allen was executed by lethal injection on October 14, 1998 at the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia.[8]
