- August 11 – 37-year-old Gary Donahue is convicted of the March 8 murder of Sandra C. Ferguson in the parking lot of the Saint James' Episcopal Church in Alexandria.[1]
- August 17 – 20-year-old Joseph D. Bowler, Jr. is shot to death in the parking lot of the Rosedale Manor Apartments in Bailey's Crossroads by 18-year-old Carlton Eley.[2][3]
