Wakefield Chapel

The Wakefield Chapel is an old church in Annandale.

In 1897, Oliver G. and Mary Besley donated a half-acre lot for a church and another half-acre lot for a graveyard.

Over the next two years the Ilda Chapel was built, and completed in 1899. The Ilda Chapel later became known as the Wakefield Chapel after Elhanan W. Wakefield, the Methodist preacher who was instrumental in its design and construction.[1]

On October 24, 1975, Circuit Court Judge William G. Plummer ruled that the Fairfax County Park Authority could take over the chapel.

It is currently owned by FCPA and is available for rental through FCPA's Historic Properties Rental Services.
