Ray E. Novotny
Ray E. Novotny was an 18-year-old Springfield man who committed suicide on October 9, 1982, by sitting on the trestle of the Accotink Creek Railroad Bridge and allowing an Amtrak passenger train to strike him.
The train, the Cardinal from Chicago, struck Novotny at 53 miles per hour and hurled him 200 feet, where he struck an embankment.
