Events that took place in Fairfax County in October, 1940:
- October 27 – 57-year-old Susan Duffy, of New Castle, Delaware, dies when she loses control of her car and crashes into a dirt embankment along the Lee Highway. The crash also injures several members of Mrs. Duffy's family who were riding in the car with her.[1]
