Northgate Square

Northgate Square is a condominium neighborhood in Reston.

The neighborhood, which contains both townhouses and apartment-style homes, was built beginning in 1970.

Some of the townhouses were so poorly constructed that they began sinking, rendering them both unsaleable and uninsurable, causing residents to seek property tax relief in 1989.[1]

Incidents

On September 1, 1971, 21-year-old Donald L. Motteler unintentionally shot and fatally wounded his 19-year-old brother Steven in his apartment at 1540 Northgate Square.[2][3]

On November 14, 2004, 53-year-old Jeffrey Kerrigan died in a fire in his first-floor condominum at 1432 Northgate Square.[4]
