- February 12 – 24-year-old Lars Hanson is convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of David C. Stallard at the Shell station at 6660 Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church on March 25, 1996.[1]
- February 26 – Fairfax County Police officer Jeffrey R. Hand robs the Central Fidelity Bank at 9516 Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield.[2]
