Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy

The Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy is the police academy for Fairfax County.

Established in 1985, the academy provides training for the Fairfax County Police Department, Fairfax County Sheriff's Office, the police departments of the town of Herndon and Vienna, and the Fairfax County Fire Marshal's Office.

From December 2009 to March 2013, the director of the academy was Major Cindy A. McAlister.

The current director of the academy is Major Shawn P. Bennett.[1]

History

The Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy was founded following a vote by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on September 10, 1984 to withdraw FCPD and Sheriff's Office trainees from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, which had recently moved to a disused elementary school in Arlington.[2]
