Ann G. Monday

Ann Garvin Monday was the superintendent of the City of Fairfax Schools from 2007 to 2012.

Career

Monday began her career with the Fairfax County Public Schools system in 1973 as an English teacher at Kilmer Intermediate School in Vienna.[1][2] In 1976, Monday moved to Chantilly High School, where she chaired the English department until 1980.

She next became an administrative aide at Marshall High School, and later a sub-school principal at Lake Braddock High School.[2]

Monday was appointed the assistant principal at Fairfax High School in 1984, and worked there until 1987, when she moved to Robinson Secondary School as the associate principal.[2]

In 1990, Monday became the principal of Longfellow Middle School, and in 1992 she returned to Robinson as the principal.[2]

Monday became the Superintendent of Cluster VI schools in 2003.[3] The next year, she became the assistant superintendent of instruction for FCPS. In April of 2007, Monday was named superintendent of City of Fairfax Schools to replace the retiring George Stepp.[3] She retired from FCPS on June 30, 2007, and the next day began working for the city.

After five years, Monday announced her retirement in January 2012, and left the City of Fairfax Schools on June 30.[4]
