Karen L. Spencer

Karen Lee Spencer (December 11, 1959 – November 29, 1972) was a 12-year-old Alexandria child who was found beaten to death in a field, known locally as Fifer's Field, across from the Jefferson Manor Shopping Center and next to Crossroads in the Penn Daw neighborhood of Alexandria on December 2, 1972.[1][2]

She had been missing since November 29, and was last seen between 9:00 and 10:00 PM on that day, when she left the home she shared with her widowed mother and siblings at 2509 Bellview Avenue to pick up some books from a friend's house.[1][3] Her body was found by five teenagers in a shallow grave covered with leaves and filled with six inches of water on the grounds of the Mount Eagle estate.[4]

Karen Lee Spencer is buried in National Memorial Park cemetery in Falls Church. The site of her murder is now part of the Huntington Metro Station.
