Howard F. Woodley

Howard F. Woodley (~1934 - May 20, 1967) was a 43-year-old Vienna man who was shot to death by Carl H. Watson at Watson's home at 1028 Walker Road in Great Falls to settle an argument on May 20, 1967.[1]

The argument apparently occurred when, the day after acting as a pallbearer at the funeral for Watson's mother, Woodley refused to leave Watson's house, instead picking up a knife. After being persuaded to put the knife down and leave the house, Woodley attempted to force his way back in past Watson, who was standing in the door of his house with a shotgun.[2]

Woodley had previously lost sight in his left eye when he had been shot by Otis Harper on October 12, 1951 to settle another argument. His failure to appear at Harper's trial on December 10 of that year and his conduct once brought before the court resulted in Judge Paul E. Brown revoking Woodley's June, 1950 probation for housebreaking, for which he had been sentenced to five years in prison.[3]
