- August 20 – Anthony Horton, a 20-year-old Baltimore man, is sentenced to life in prison by Judge Barbara Keenan for the April 28 murder of Stanley Weinstein during a gas station robbery in Springfield. His two accomplices, 24-year-old James Swinson and 18-year-old Jerry Prince, are each given 25-year prison terms for their participation.[1]
