William P. Sikes

William P. Sikes (d. December 27, 1970) was a dry cleaning plant supervisor, alcohol enthusiast and murderer from Falls Church.

Late on the evening of January 10, 1970, the 49-year-old Sikes shot and mortally wounded his wife of 32 years, 53-year-old Mary, when she turned off the television following a prolonged argument at their home at 6819 Jackson Avenue.[1][2]

Following a one day long trial and about an hour of deliberation by the jury, Sikes was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison on October 19, 1970.[2][3]

While awaiting transfer from the Fairfax County Jail to prison, Sikes asphyxiated himself with gas in the jail's laundry on December 27, 1970.[4]
