Events that took place in Fairfax County in September, 1879:
- September 5 – Thomas Reid is killed by James O'Connor when O'Connor settles an argument with Reid by striking him in the head with a hoe. O'Connor, his father, Thomas, and Reid were working on a road near Dranesville when the disagreement between Reid and the O'Connors took place.[1]
