Richard Schaefer

Richard Schaefer was a 53-year-old retired economist who was shot to death by his estranged wife, 46-year-old Patricia S. Schaefer, on the front porch of her home at 3908 Prosperity Avenue in Fairfax on March 6, 1990.[1]

Schaefer had come to the house at about 7:30 that evening to visit with some of the couple's six children.[2] About 10 minutes later, his wife shot him six times using a five-shot revolver, although neighbors reported hearing as many as seven shots.[3][4]

The shooting occurred on the evening before the Schaefer's divorce was to be finalized.
