Reston Town Center

The Reston Town Center is a mixed-use development with both office and retail space in Reston.

On January 3, 2017, Boston Properties implemented a paid parking system at the RTC, ostensibly to deter commuter parking. However, the move was widely seen as a cash grab by Boston Properties, which had underestimated how tight-fisted the moneyed classes of Northern Fairfax County actually are, and led to an informal boycott and concomitant loss of business to businesses in the RTC, with some merchants reporting sales decreases of 20 to 25% or more.[1]

The loss of business led to nearly two dozen RTC merchants joining together to form the Reston Merchants Association.[2]
