Orange and Alexandria Railroad

The Orange and Alexandria Railroad, usually abbreviated as O&A, was an early faceless corporate behemoth in Fairfax County.

The Orange and Alexandria Railroad was chartered on May 28, 1848, and was completed in April of 1854.

The depredations of the Civil War were especially visited upon the Orange and Alexandria railroad's infrastructure and rolling stock and in 1867, the Orange and Alexandria railroad combined with the Manassas Gap Railroad to form the Orange, Alexandria and Manassas Railroad.[1]
