John J. Caussin, Jr.

John Joseph Caussin, Jr. is an assistant fire chief who began serving as the interim chief of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department on April 30, 2018.

Caussin joined FCFRD in 1985 and began his career with Company 18 at the Jefferson Fire Station in Falls Church.[1][2]

In 1988, Caussin was promoted to Cave-In Technician.[1] In December of that year, he traveled to Armenia as part of a 10-member contingent led by Battalion Chief Michael Tamillow to help rescue victims of a massive earthquake there.[3][4]

The next year, in 1989, Caussin was promoted to Lieutenant, followed by a promotion to Captain I in 1995.[1]

Early on the morning of January 10, 1997, Captain Caussin was sleeping at the Burke Volunteer Fire Department station when a fire started in the station's vehicle bay, ultimately causing nearly $1 million in damage, including destroying a $300,000 rescue squad truck owned by BVFD.[5]

Caussin was Captain II in 1998 and became station commander at Chantilly Station 15. Over the next four years, Captain Caussin held a number of assignments, including Penn Daw Station 11, Fair Oaks Station 21, Jefferson Station 18, and the Fire and Rescue Academy.[1]
