Gerald W. Hyland

Gerald W. "Gerry" Hyland (1936 - ) was the supervisor for the Mount Vernon District from 1988 to 2015.

Personal

One of four children, Hyland was born and raised in Holden, Massachusetts and attended the College of the Holy Cross, where he took a Bachelors degree in Economics in 1959.[1][2] He then wisely chose to move to Northern Virginia, and attended Georgetown University Law Center, taking his Bachelor of Laws in 1962.[3] He also met his wife Carmen while at Georgetown, and together they would have a daughter, Christiane Gigi.[1][2]

Professional

Hyland then served more than six years of active duty in the Air Force, and would go on to serve 24 more years as a reservist. He added to his professional credentials by taking a Master of Law in Taxation from the George Washington School of Law in 1969. Also in 1969, Hyland moved into his house in the Alexandria region of Fairfax County.[3]
