- August 4 – 45-year-old Fairfax County Park Authority clerk Teresa L. Thornton is stabbed to death by her ex-husband, William J. Thornton, outside the Authority's offices on Pender Drive in Fairfax.[1][2]
- August 8 – Fairfax County Police Officers Wellford M. Brock, III and John A. Absalon fatally shoot 59-year-old Gloria Richardson at her home in Fairfax when she points a gun at them in a suicide-by-cop. Richardson is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where she dies.[3][4]
