- August 29 – The Lucky Tavern tourist cabins on Route 1 in Alexandria prove to be not so lucky for 36-year-old Ella F. Moody when she is shot and killed by 34-year-old Texas truck driver Rupert J. Turbeville, who then turns his gun on himself.[1][2][3]
