Michael Duhrkoop

Michael Duhrkoop was a six year old student at Lynbrook Elementary School who was crushed to death on March 2, 1982 when the 41-year-old school bus driver ran him over after dropping him off near his home on Cork Glen Way in Springfield.[1]

After dropping the children off, the driver started the bus and began to make a left turn when she heard children shouting, because she had struck Duhrkoop with the left fender of her bus and knocked him to the ground. She stopped the bus, looked around, then continued, the loud thump of the left rear wheel crushing Duhrkoop finally alerting her to the child's presence.[1]
