M. Langhorne Keith

Martin Langhorne "Lang" Keith was a judge on the Circuit Court from 1995 to 2007. He was also the Fairfax County Attorney from 1972 to 1973.

Early life and education

Keith was one of twin sons of Naval officer Robert Taylor Scott Keith and his wife Eleanor. Keith attended the Kent School in Connecticut, then the University of Virginia, graduating in 1958.

Career

Following his graduation, Keith served as a Naval officer. He returned to the University of Virginia and took his J.D. in 1970. Upon his admission to the Bar, he joined the firm of Hogan and Hartson.[1]

On March 13, 1972, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Keith as County Attorney, effective April 1, to replace the departed Donald Stevens.[2]

Keith left the post of County Attorney in 1973, returning to Hogan and Hartson, where he would practice until joining the bench in 1995.[1]

Upon turning 70, Keith retired from the bench and moved to Cooperstown, New York.

Personal

Keith married his first wife, the former Jeanne Heffron, in 1961, and they had a daughter, Anne. Keith would later marry Anne Ferrebee in 1985.
