Jeffrey R. Hand

Jeffrey Ralph Hand (b. June 23, 1953) is a former Fairfax County Police Officer and bank robber.

Hand was a 23-year veteran of the FCPD who had been assigned as the school resource officer at West Springfield High School since 1995.[1]

On November 21, 1995, Hand robbed the National Bank of Fredericksburg. He returned to the bank on September 17, 1996 and robbed it again.

On December 18, 1996 Hand robbed the First Union Bank in Bealeton, Virginia.[2]

On February 26, 1997 Hand signed out of work early to rob the Central Fidelity Bank at 9516 Old Keene Mill Road in Burke. Arriving three minutes after the bank closed at 2:00 p.m., Hand pounded on the locked door, demanding to be let in.[3] When he was refused entry, Hand let himself into the bank by firing twice into the door and shattering the glass.[3]

On May 22, 1997, hand robbed the Central Fidelity Bank at 5815 Burke Centre Parkway in Burke, netting himself $71,782.[1]

The second robbery in Burke was Hand's last. He was arrested at the West Springfield police station as he arrived for work on June 5.[1]

Appearing before Judge Jane Marum Roush on September 17, 1997, Hand pleaded guilty to the two Burke bank robberies.[4] Judge Roush sentenced Hand to serve 11 years and six months in prison on November 17, 1997.[5]

Hand plead guilty in Fauquier County to the 1996 robbery of the First Virginia Bank in Bealeton on February 12, 1998.[6]

On April 20, 1999, Hand was sentenced in Stafford County for the two robberies of the National Bank of Fredericksburg in 1995 and 1996.[7]

Currently imprisoned at the Wise Correctional Unit in Coeburn, Virginia, Hand is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2025.
