Daniel W. Kriss

Daniel William "Dan" Kriss (b. February 9, 1928) was a Fairfax County Police officer from 1956 to 1979.

Following the outbreak of World War II, Kriss joined the U.S. Navy in December, 1942, when he was 14 years old. Kriss served in the Pacific Theater on board the destroyer USS Chauncey from May, 1943 to January, 1946.

After 6½ years with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, Kriss joined the FCPD in October, 1956.[1] On January 1, 1965, Kriss was promoted to corporal.[2]

Kriss was promoted to lieutenant in 1967, and to captain in 1970.[1]

In 1972, Captain Kriss became the commander of the McLean District Station. Two years later, he became the commander of the Chantilly District Station, taking over from Captain Ron Watts.[1]

Kriss was tasked in 1976 with planning for the new Reston District Station, which he delegated to Lieutenant Kelly Coffelt.[1] When the station opened on May 22, Kriss assumed command, and continued in that assignment until he retired from FCPD in June, 1979.[1]
