Chief of the Fairfax County Police Department

The Chief of the Fairfax County Police Department is Colonel Edwin C. Roessler, Jr., who was appointed to that position on July 30, 2013.[1]

The position of chief was created with the establishment of the Fairfax County Police Department as a separate law enforcement agency from the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office on July 1, 1940. Carl R. McIntosh was the first chief, initially given the rank of captain.
