Bailey's Community Center

The Bailey's Community Center is located in the Bailey's Crossroads area of Falls Church.

It is housed in the former Lillian Carey Elementary School, which opened as a segregated elementary school in 1956. The 5-room school was designed by architect John W. Pickett and constructed at a cost of $168,515.[1]

With the integration of the Fairfax County Public Schools system, the school was closed and became the Lillian Carey Annex, serving as the headquarters for the newly-decentralized system's Area II offices stating in 1968.[2]

The building was one of three, along with the former Annandale and Drew Smith Elementary Schools, that was turned over to the county in 1983 in exchange for a transfer of $615,000.[3]
