Auguster A. Carter, Sr.

Auguster A. "Gus" Carter, Sr. (February 20, 1948 – August 18, 1996) was a 48-year-old air traffic controller from Hampton, Virginia who was shot to death by 24-year-old off-duty D.C. Police Officer Robert T. Glover on Interstate 95 in Springfield on August 18, 1996.[1][2]

Glover shot Carter as he dragged Virginia State Trooper Eric Radwick alongside his red Saab while attempting to flee the scene of a traffic stop.[1] There was speculation that Carter, a diabetic, may have been suffering from poorly regulated blood sugar levels, which can cause confusion similar to that of drunkenness, but police found over 10 grams of cocaine and 11 grams of marijuana in Carter's Saab, and the autopsy determined that Carter had both alcohol and cocaine in his blood.[2][3]
